The Power of Internet Memes
Memes are entertaining quotes, especially internet ones, that are posted on blogs or message boards on the internet. The most famous type of them is probably "meme", which is derived from the word "memor". A meme is normally an abstract concept, idea, or style that takes on a life of its own and spreads through social imitation from individual to individual in a society and generally has various symbolic meaning reflecting a common theme or phenomenon. Generally, the people who create the most interest are teenagers and young adults because they are more susceptible to these types of things and are also very creative.
There are different kinds of internet marketing strategies that have resulted in the birth of an endless list of popular memes. Some of them include picture posts on social media websites such as Facebook; videos with "meme" tags added to YouTube; and other online applications that make use of existing keywords as a way of generating online content. With this, a new wave of websites dedicated to the business of bringing unique cultural products to the masses was born and has since become known as "meme generators".
There is an active community on the website Reddit that was created to collect and classify funny materials on a website. Many people in the online community classify their own personal favorites into available "meme" content that they can post on the website for others to view. There are even instances where a single image or video is chosen and then added to a collective pool of content, making it more "meme-able". There are also several websites that cater to the business of selling and trading memorabilia with the use of certain popular or infamous, cultural figures. This includes such celebrities as Snoop Dogg, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and many more.
One thing that is very interesting about the phenomenon of internet memes is the fact that they tend to target younger generations who are posting them as a way of socializing with others. The older generation finds them childish and uncool. Memes are often created as a reaction to some type of social situation that is taking place at the time or in some way captures the zeitgeist of the times. This is what made them particularly interesting to so many people who embrace social media culture.
In addition to creating internet memes, there are also several ways to distribute them. One way is by using picture-sharing websites like Facebook, Digg, and Flickr. These types of websites have millions of users all over the world who can share images with each other. Another way is through the use of various news aggregators such as Ghetu and Reddit. There are many people who rely on internet memes as a form of self-expression, especially with things that are happening in their everyday lives.
In terms of political usage, there are two camps of internet users: those who support Obama and those who support John McCain. The Obama supporters have been seen to re-blog items that have Obama's face in it, create pictures with Obama in various poses, and even create Meta-figures that resemble the president in various settings. These types of internet memes are referred to as a "good" or "power" word meme. For instance, the conservativeervative blogosphere has been abuzz with posts that refer to Obama as a "book read," or that list his various achievements (e.g., "most books read").
With regards to celebrities, there are many people who are very popular among certain online communities. One popular type of internet user is the so called "selfie" user. These users to take screen shots of themselves with their cell phone and post the pictures on the web where others can comment. Many people use this word meme to refer to themselves, but it is also used to compliment a person's appearance.
With more cultural information being shared online on a daily basis, it seems as if the "book read" or the power Meme is on an indefinite hiatus. Will there be a resurgence? One thing is for sure, as long as the use of Internet Terminology such as "book read", "powerful Meme", and similar terms continue to circulate throughout cyberspace, there will be a need for terms that describe what sorts of internet Memes are being produced and posted regularly. This task can be done by those who specialize in the crafting of cultural information as well as by those who are interested in expanding the realm of cultural information on the World Wide Web. Perhaps such a division would better help those whose work transcends the limits of political, technological, and social analysis.
